REVOLUSI

In this podcast writer David van Reybrouck tells the colonial history of Indonesia. To promote this podcast I made this trailer tring to pack 400 years of history in to <1 min of animation.

  • Poem “diponegoro” (1943) Chairil Anwar • Animation: Luka van Diepen • Sounddesign: Jacco Prantl • Voice: Ronny Sudiono

Styleframes

I tried to establish a general sense of colour and style best suited to this grand historic story. Scrolling trough photo archives of Indonesia during Dutch colonial rule, reinterpreting them in color.

Colour boards

While reading the book I stubbled upon the poem “diponegoro” written by (1943) Chairil Anwar in it. To me it symbolized the broader story of oppression and spoken in Bahasa Indonesia it would set the write tone.

Visually I wanted to accompany this poem with a timeline spanning a day from sun rise till down and a tension that gets stronger by every shot. The colour boards became importend for the animatic as the placement of the shot on the timeline determend its colour and lighting.
